PAUL J. RIVIERE, V, is a founding member of the Riviere Advocacy Group. He has been selected by Super Lawyer’s as a Rising Star for the years 2014-2018 (the last 5 years consecutively). Before founding the group, he was a Certified Legal Intern at the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s office. He also worked for a well-known insurance defense law firm in Miami-Dade County. He has extensive experience in many facets of the law, enabling him to advise his clients on a multiple matters and a variety of cases. Having both plaintiff and defense experience allows him to analyze each case from both sides and obtain maximum results for his clients. Mr. Riviere’s sale and purchase transactional dealings have included convenience stores, restaurants, shopping malls and web companies just to name a few. He has won millions of dollars for his clients whether thorough successful contract negotiations or compensation for the injured. His primary practice areas include Business and Contract Law, Personal Injury, Workers’ Compensation, Consumer Bankruptcy and Criminal Law. He is a member of many attorney organizations, including the New Jersey Association for Justice (NJ Trial Lawyers), Monmouth County Bar Association, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and the Hayden Proctor Inn of Court. His membership in those organizations allows him to stay in close contact with his colleagues in the legal field, as well as stay on top of the ever changing laws in his primary areas of practice. Mr. Riviere has represented both civil and criminal clients in Federal Court, Civil Court and Municipal Court. Mr. Riviere received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the West Virginia University and his Juris Doctor Degree from the Saint Thomas University School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Riviere was a recipient of an academic scholarship. His scholarly accolades in law school include a prestigious book award in the study of Property Law, as well as being on the Dean’s List. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

How did you build a successful practice?

I listen to my client's story and more importantly what result they are seeking. This allows me to explain to them how my advocacy skills can or cannot help them achieve their goals. This has led to a successful portfolio of clients.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Look for a lawyer that will give you an honest assessment of your case; not just tell you what you want to hear.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is helpful of course, however, having knowledge on a national scale gives me broad perspective on a case's merits and maneuverability.

If the case is within my expertise, I can let the potential client know where they stand in a legal sense.

I need to know the who, what, where and when facts concerning their case.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am not afraid to say no to case if it is not within my expertise, or it just plainly doesn't make economic sense to engage the services of a lawyer.

I am freedom fighter by nature, so I am behind causes which seek to preserve our freedoms.

Yes, when my schedule allows, I accept pro bono assignments which allows me to give back to the community.
