About Philip
Philip Thomas, a securities and regulatory attorney specializing in investment adviser legal and compliance issues, is a member of the Financial Services and Banking group of Garrity, Graham, Murphy, Garofalo & Flinn. Most recently, Mr. Thomas was the Director of the Private Funds Regulatory Practice at a New York law firm, where he served registered investment advisers managing pooled investment vehicles. Prior to this, Mr. Thomas was the Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel of SB Schonfeld Fund Advisors LLC. While at Schonfeld, he led the organization of a number of private investment funds and structured and managed the compliance program of three investment advisers. Before this, Mr. Thomas founded a boutique hedge fund regulatory consulting practice. He began his alternative investments career in 1995 at Merrill Lynch, where he was a key member of the team that brought to market Merrill’s first fund-of-hedge-funds. Mr. Thomas received his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law-Camden and graduated from Hamilton College, with honors, in 1992. He is a former US Navy officer who served both on active duty and in the Reserve Component.
