Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Several cases occurred where the clients didn't think they qualified for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. I showed them that by adhering strictly to the rules and counting everyone in the household, dependents and non-dependents they could qualify and in the end clients received their discharges. In a couple of Chapter 13 cases I was able to structure out of plan payments in order to protect more than $175k in equity in their family homes.
How did you build a successful practice?
I would say my success is based upon my networking with friends, family and other veterans/reservists together with a lot of hard work and attention to detail and being hands on with my clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
I think clients should look for honesty, knowledge and experience in the attorney together with a comfort level which reassures them that they are being properly represented and cared for.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important because it provides a strong base upon which to guide clients through their particular matter in knowing the practices of the District and the particular idiosyncrasies of the Judge before who the matter is being heard.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I provide the basic procedure for the case, the time span over which the case will occur, information about whether the PC can qualify for bankruptcy, the various tasks involved in the case for the client, and the manner in which I personally care for each case and make myself available to handle all aspects of the case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I need to know whether it is a single or joint filing, the basic income of the client(s), whether there is a home involved, how many dependents, what secured debt there is, if there are student loans and/or past due taxes. With this information I can provide a pretty good assessment of the clients case.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I try to insure each of my clients is comfortable with every step of the process and are never anxious about the outcome of the case.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Making life easier for my clients by providing a ""way out"" from the financial stress they are living with.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am an avid golfer, lover of music and film, a voracious reader, and a politics nut.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes - I keep a hand in working with the US ARMY RESERVE after having spent 27 1/2 years in the reserves and retiring at a senior level. Further, I work with a couple of charities.
