Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

An elderly man was in a car accident. He did not have an attorney and thought initially he was not seriously injured. He indicated to Geico he was willing to accept a minimal amount for a settlement. About a month later he started having headaches, forgetting where he was, forgetting basic directions, and falling asleep at odd places. He ended up in the hospital with a subdural hematoma. He required brain surgery. Geico initially was attempting to enforce the settlement. After I got involved I persuaded Geico to withdraw its claim the settlement was binding and ended up getting the Plaintiff the $250,000 policy limit.

How did you build a successful practice?

I built my practice by being a great lawyer and listener for my clients over the past 35 years; I built relationships with them and they knew they could always trust that I would do a great job for them and then their family and friends. I later also advertised, became more involved with social media, and began getting referrals from other lawyers. I expanded and hired associates to help handle the increased workflow.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for a lawyer that has real, successful experience in the area of the law they need help with; the lawyer must be responsive to their questions, and the lawyer must listen to them and not talk down to them or be dismissive of their concerns. The lawyer must be a decent and honest human being.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is relevant as far as knowing for example what County has the higher jury verdicts. It is also helpful to know what you can about the Judge hearing the case. Finally, it is relevant to know what the law is in the District where the case is heard.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I can assess what type of case it is in a free phone consultation, get a good idea if a person has a potential case, answer basic questions, and determine whether we should then set up an appointment in my office to further discuss the case.
