Renee C. Nash | Roseville Business Lawyer

Renee Nash has been practicing law in California for 23 years. Her practice areas include most aspects of business law, with an emphasis of business entity formation and management, transactional work (including buy-sell agreements), tax and strategic planning, employment law (including independent contractor issues), and intellectual property. Renee also has extensive background and experience working with non-profits, including formation and governance. In addition to her business practice, Renee represents public agencies, with an emphasis on school districts. In all of her practice areas, Renee brings her experience in both the public and private sector to assist her clients in dealing with both simple and complex legal matters.

In the private sector, Renee has extensive experience dealing with employment law matters. She served as a legislative advocate and legal counsel for the California Newspaper Publishers where she advised newspapers around the state on a variety of business law topics, including employment law. She provided hands-on training to managers in a variety of areas, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, sexual harassment and wage and hour law. She also dealt extensively with the issue of proper worker classification (employees versus independent contractor issues). During this time, she became a recognized expert throughout the state in Freedom of Information issues including the state’s open meetings and open records laws and authored two books on those and related topics. As corporate counsel to McClatchy Publishing and General Counsel to News & Review Publishing, Renee was responsible for contract work, workplace investigations and a variety of other legal matters. She also served as General Counsel for Professional Education Services, LP, based on Granite Bay, California. During this time, Renee has also owned several businesses, giving her an understanding of the needs of business owners on both the practical and legal level.

In the public sector, Renee is a member of the Eureka Union School District Board of Trustees. She was elected in 2012 and has served as both President and Clerk of the Board. In this capacity, Renee is one of five elected persons responsible for setting policy for the school district and managing an annual budget of approximately $30 million. Renee is also a member of the Delegate Assembly of the California School Boards Association, a statewide organization that advocates for public education. Because of this experience, Renee has a strong understanding of the needs and issues of school districts and other public agencies.

In the non-profit sector, Renee created and is still a member of the Board of Directors of the Roseville Theatre Arts Academy in Roseville. She served on the Board of Directors of the Eureka Schools Foundation, including a term as president, for nearly a decade. She has formed, advised and sat on the board of numerous other non-profit organizations. Her experience allows her to provide a full spectrum of legal services to non-profits, including formation, governance and tax-related issues.

Renee’s other experience includes serving as an Adjunct Professor of Law at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento for 14 years where she taught both Employment Law and Mass Media Law. Prior to attending law school, Renee was a newspaper reporter and editor for several daily newspapers in Northern California.

Renee received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, and her Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law, where she graduated Order of the Coif and with Great Distinction. Renee has lived in the Granite Bay area with her husband Steve for over 20 years. She has four teenage daughters.
