Defendant: Attorney for the defendant/appellant, Jose Guadalupe Machado-Sarmiento. The appellant appealed the eighty month sentence he received following his conviction. He was convicted by a jury of conspiracy to import more that fifty kilograms of marijuana, as well as importing more than fifty kilograms of marijuana, intent to distribute. He argued that sentence imposed was unreasonable. Upon review of the case an appeals court denied his appeal and the judgment of the district court was affirmed.
