In an interstate custody case, working with out-of-state counsel and in state counsel regarding authenticity of documents, the result was the father of the 3 children of the parties was ordered to return them to their mother -my client- in another state, within 24 hours, and did so.

A father with a 3 year-old daughter came to me. His former wife would only allow him to see her on Sunday afternoons when she was present.  At a hearing remarkable because the judge actually took a break during the hearing due to her frustration with opposing counsel, the Court made a temporary order pending custody mediation ratcheting visitation up to 50% in six weeks, which later became the custody order.

Custody cases can be the most rewarding or the most frustrating or agonizing.  That work has the most value in what I do.   Early in my practice I represented the father of a 9 year-old child.  The father is an alcoholic in recovery the mother an alcoholic who has moved with the child to another state pending a custody trial. We were able to get the child here for a summer visit, and file a motion for custody.  The mother requested a continuance, for the third time.  I told the Court we needed an order, now.  The judge left the bench for 10 minutes and came back and told us he was granting our order.
An hour or so later, my client showed up at my office with his son- who looked at me, walked up to me with his hand extended, and said: "Thank you, Mr. Helzberg."
