About Richard
Before attending law school, Richard graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where he majored in Mechanical Engineering with a minor area of study in Aeronautical Engineering. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Rose, he then attended and graduated from The J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, where he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA), in the discipline of Management. He thereafter attended law school at the University of Tulsa from 1978 through 1981 and was conferred the Juris Doctorate degree. While in law school, Richard was licensed by the States of Texas and Oklahoma to be a Certified Public Accountant, which licensure he continues to carry today. Richard has been a licensed Oklahoma attorney at all times since 1982.
Richard’s continued membership in numerous professional organizations is evidence of his never-ending commitment to the cause of Justice on behalf of the injured and maimed consumers, patients, and employees of Oklahoma.
He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and of the Tulsa County (Oklahoma) Bar Association and has been for more than 30 years. He is a proud member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), and of the Oklahoma Association for Justice (OAJ), and has been since 1992. He is admitted to practice in all Oklahoma Courts.
As a member of the American Association for Justice since 1992, Richard has taken more than 1000 hours of trial practice-related continuing legal education courses from the AAJ’s National College of Advocacy (NCA) and has therefore been bestowed the recognition of “Advocate of Trial Practice” by the AAJ’s NCA in every year since 1992.
In 2011, Richard attended and completed the NCA’s “Ultimate Trial Advocacy Course” held at Harvard University Law School, for which the AAJ’s National College of Advocacy has bestowed its highest academic honor – “Diplomate of Trial Advocacy”.
Richard is also a lifetime member of the “American Association of Attorneys and Certified Public Accountants” – a professional group for those legal practitioners who are both licensed to practice law and certified to practice public accounting.
Before attending law school, Richard fulfilled his duty to serve our Country by serving in the Army as an Infantry Officer, where he was certified as a paratrooper and trained as an infantry platoon leader. During his tour of duty, he attended Army Flight School where he learned to fly the “Huey” Helicopter, and was awarded his pilot wings. He served 3 ½ years on active duty, followed by reserve duty. Richard was honorably discharged from service upon commencing his study of law at the University of Tulsa.
For the past 30 years, Richard has been advocating fearlessly and zealously in Court for Justice on behalf of the injured consumers, patients, and employees of Oklahoma.
Richard seeks to do Justice for the injured patient against the doctors or hospitals whose negligence causes injury or death.
Richard seeks to do Justice for the injured employee against the employer who denies the full benefits of the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Act to their injured workers.
Richard seeks to do Justice for the injured consumer against the large and wealthy corporations whose defective products cause injury or death.
Richard seeks to do Justice for the powerless insured against their greedy, powerful insurance company to enforce the promises that were made in their insurance policies.
Richard seeks to do Justice for all of his clients whose cases wind-up in the appellate courts of the State. His appellate decisions are available under the resources link at “Published Appellate Decisions”.
Richard Shallcross’ life experiences – first as an Engineer, then as an Army Officer, then as Certified Public Accountant, and then as a practicing Oklahoma trial advocate for more than 30 years – has prepared him well to now be your attorney, and to represent you with your complicated legal problem.
