About Robert
Mr. Kargen is a partner in the Business Department and a member of the Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice Group. He focuses on creditors' rights, debtor's remedies, corporate reorganizations and general bankruptcy work, including the representation of Trustees. Mr. Kargen represents financial institutions, landlords, general contractors, real estate ventures, health care providers, employees, consultants, asset purchasers and sellers and secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy cases.
He also has a general commercial practice. In connection with Mr. Kargen's general commercial practice, he works with entrepreneurial clients involving the formation of business entities, including partnerships, corporations and limited liability companies and provides business and financing advice. He frequently represents financial institutions and borrowers involving commercial loan transactions, some mergers and acquisitions and real estate transactions. He has broad commercial experience involving the operation and management of businesses.
Mr. Kargen received his B.S., in Mechanical Engineering, from Drexel University in 1970 and his J.D. in 1973 from Villanova University. He graduated Villanova University School of Law with honors and was a member of the Order of the Coif and an Associate Editor of the Villanova Law Review. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations and is admitted to practice in all courts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Federal Courts in the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, and the Third and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeal. He was selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Law & Politics magazine in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. He lectures for the American Bankruptcy Institute at various times and on various subjects. Mr. Kargen has been AV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system.
