John Paul serves as an Associate Attorney in the Environmental Litigation practice group at Singleton Schreiber, where he is committed to advocating for individuals and communities impacted by environmental harm. With a foundation in both public service and legal practice, John brings a unique perspective to his work, combining rigorous legal training with a proven track record of service and leadership. Prior to joining Singleton Schreiber, John’s legal experience included pro bono immigration work representing asylum claimants living with HIV and AIDS, patent prosecution in the fields of remote sensors and medical devices, and internships at the Superior Court of San Francisco and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California. Before entering law, John served as an active-duty Marine Infantry Officer, deploying four times overseas and gaining extensive leadership experience in challenging environments. John earned his law degree from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco where he won recognition in national moot court competitions and participated in the UC Law Business Journal. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, where he was a varsity lightweight rower and a member of the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers racing team. He is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Outside of his legal work, John is an avid outdoorsman and environmental enthusiast. He enjoys backpacking, keeping bees, and mushroom foraging with his wife. John brings the same discipline, curiosity, and commitment to stewardship that define his professional work to his life beyond the office.

This commitment to advocacy drives his approach to representing clients who have been wrongfully denied insurance claims or treated unfairly by insurance companies, and he focuses on holding insurers accountable and securing the coverage and compensation his clients deserve. Jordan earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from California Western School of Law, where he was admitted into the Public Service Honors Society for his work as an extern for Magistrate Judge Steve B. Chu at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mary Fata is an Associate Attorney in Singleton Schreiber's Motions, Writs, and Appeals practice group, where she focuses on complex appellate litigation and post-trial advocacy. Before joining the firm, Mary served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Vladimir P. Devens at the Hawai'i Supreme Court, where she gained firsthand exposure to the full spectrum of appellate practice. Prior to her clerkship, she worked as a staff attorney at a nonprofit in New York City, leading an initiative focused on providing legal services to low-income senior women. Mary earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2022, where she was a recipient of the Berkeley Law Public Interest Fellowship. During law school, she served as Co-Director of the Berkeley Law Anti-Trafficking Project, Supervising Editor for the Berkeley Journal of International Law, and as a legal research extern with the UC Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy Hague Domestic Violence Project. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University Bloomington in 2016. Mary is admitted to practice in New York. Outside of the office, Mary enjoys hiking, traveling, and drawing.

Zaira P. Estrada is a member of our Fire Litigation Division. Before joining Singleton Schreiber, she handled criminal cases for a law firm in San Diego and developed her advocacy skills during a three-year internship with the San Diego Public Defender’s Office. After earning a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2016 from the University of California, Irvine, Mrs. Estrada attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where she was selected to be a part of the Criminal Law Fellowship and Criminal Law Society and graduated in 2020. As a native Spanish speaker, Mrs. Estrada communicates easily and empathetically with clients whose first language is Spanish. She is adept at explaining complex legal proceedings in terms that are easily understood. In 2021, Mrs. Estrada was admitted to practice before California state courts. She’s also admitted in federal courts including the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Jon Cadieux is a member of Singleton Schreiber’s Fire Litigation practice group and has extensive experience preparing wildfire cases for trial and mediation. He also has expertise in employment law and municipal law. Early in his legal career, Mr. Cadieux worked with Gerald Singleton in litigation stemming from the 2007 San Diego wildfires. He then joined a firm dedicated to labor and employment law, where he spent 11 years representing workers in a variety of forums, helping them secure better pay, safer working conditions, and protection from workplace harassment. After a year working as a deputy city attorney, Mr. Cadieux returned to Singleton Schreiber to represent fire victims once again. Mr. Cadieux earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego before graduating cum laude from California Western School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Gary LoCurto is a partner in Singleton Schreiber’s San Diego office who focuses on wildfire litigation. He has worked up and mediated thousands of fire cases, reaching settlements totaling over a billion dollars for our clients in the past seven years. He also handles a wide variety of other civil litigation matters, including environmental nuisance, wage-and-hour, wrongful-termination, and personal-injury cases. Mr. LoCurto graduated with honors from Christian Heritage College with degrees in both history and psychology. He attended California Western School of Law, where he was an active member of the Environmental Law Society and interned with San Diego Coastkeeper. He also studied international humanitarian and environmental law in Prague, Czech Republic. Before joining Singleton Schreiber, Mr. LoCurto had his own practice where he specialized in plaintiffs’ employment civil rights law and handled personal injury matters. Before college, Mr. LoCurto played professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization. In his spare time, he plays in a local band and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. A seasoned trial and policy holder attorney, she has spent her career litigating complex civil matters involving personal injury, mass torts, civil rights, and insurance coverage in federal and state courts. Ms. Meyers has extensive trial experience in insurance litigation. She recently tried an insurance coverage matter, wherein the jury found in favor of the Plaintiff by concluding that the insurance company improperly denied the Plaintiff’s request for payment of life insurance benefits. Ms. Meyers regularly represents policyholders in life, property, and disability insurance coverage disputes, including wrongful policy termination and bad-faith denial cases, and has a strong track record of taking these matters to jury verdict. Before joining Singleton Schreiber, Ms. Meyers served as a deputy attorney for the State of California Department of Transportation, as a supervising trial attorney for the City of Oakland, and as an associate and an insurance coverage partner at a firm in Oakland, California. She was the lead defense strategist for the City of Oakland in civil and criminal cases arising from the “Ghost Ship” fire, the deadliest fire in the history of Oakland. Ms. Meyers earned a B.A. in Political Science from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, in 2000, where she was a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honors Society. She earned her law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2004 and is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California and Nevada and in the U.S. Supreme Court. Outside the office, Ms. Meyers enjoys spending time on the sports field with her family and two crazy border collies.
