Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Recent cases for the Hinote Law Firm include Grandparents receiving custody of their teenage granddaughter after their son unfortunately was killed in an automobile accident. Additionally, the Hinote Law Firm was able to keep a Father, who did not know he was a Father, from having to pay a back child support order for a now eighteen-year-old son. Finally the Hinote Law Firm successfully defended someone who allegedly burglarized a house of someone else when in fact she was merely there under the belief such house was owned by someone who informed her it was their house.

How did you build a successful practice?

The Hinote Law Firm has built its success based upon what was learned early in life from living and working on a dairy farm where only hard work and dedication was accepted.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

A client should really look for a lawyer who first will listen to what their issue is and then develop a plan to try to get the client what they wish.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Word of mouth from clients who have been successfully defended and/or represented by the Hinote Law Firm always brings a smile to our face. We are especially pleased when the other side of a legal matter will refer new clients to our Firm notwithstanding the fact we were the attorney on the other side.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

In a free telephone consultation certainly the largest issue is why does the client need an attorney. Many times the answer is simply they do not actually need an attorney and there may be another avenue. We provide such information with the idea should they need an attorney in the future we hope they will call us again. Should they need an attorney then we verify their issue is indeed something we can assist them with which would include which County, City or State the matter would be within as well as making sure it is an area of law we can properly assist them with. Even if our office cannot assist them normally we try to find them someone who can assist them hopefully.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

What would differentiate this Law Firm from others first and foremost would be the fact Scott Hinote is thee only attorney in Hinote Law Firm and therefore when you hire your lawyer you know he will be the one working on your matter and sitting next to you in Court as opposed to larger law firms who will send their newer attorneys who you may not even meet until your court date. Scott Hinote will not hide behind his paralegals and/or assistants. Hopefully there is a comfort for our clients with that understanding. Let alone the fact Scott Hinote has been practicing law for 20 years and is very well respected by the Judges, other attorneys and perhaps most importantly the court clerks who really assist the Judges.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of being an attorney in this area is the very same reason as to why I wanted to become a lawyer. Years ago I felt helpless while a friend was going through legal issues which were harming her. Now I feel wonderful whenever I can provide legal service which many times causes the clients to not only thank me profusely but sometimes even hugs, thank you cards and one time a box of live lobsters from the State of Maine was given to me to show their appreciation.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My other current interests besides law at this point, and naturally beyond me trying to be a good husband and father, is the playing of the guitar. By no means would I say I am a wonderful student of the instrument but such does cause me to learn a little bit more each day and provides a bit of a breather from this chosen occupation which can run rampant with the need to put out a few fires here and there.

Are you involved in your community?

I am involved in my community which includes being on city boards as well as assisting with our local Farmer's Market and other local venues to try to make our hometown as good as we can get it.
