Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
One of the most professionally rewarding cases for me was a pro bono matter concluded within the past year. An employee was unfairly terminated by his employer and then the employer wrongfully denied him unemployment benefits. The employer was represented by one of the largest and elite firms in Nashville. We were able to prove dishonest conduct by his supervisor and got the benefits re-instated.
How did you build a successful practice?
A successful practice is built one day at a time by being courteous, professional and knowledgeable when interacting with clients, other lawyers and the Court. A solid reputation is the surest way to success.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
The ability to listen and understand their problems, prompt communication and confidence.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important. Many issues are decided through the discretion of others. It is important to be familiar with the tendencies of other lawyers and judges.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Most cases are heavily fact dependent. A general overview of the law and potential outcomes can be discussed once the basic facts are known.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The relief expressed by my clients when a matter is concluded to their satisfaction. They get to go back to their lives without the stress and anxiety that comes with litigation.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am a history buff and especially enjoy learning about southern history and American political figures.windowns 10
Are you involved in your community?
I provide pro bono legal services through two separate organizations in Nashville. I also spent several years serving as executive director of a local non-profit performing arts organization.
