Scott Thorson grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he graduated in 2008. Mr. Thorson received his legal training at the University of Tulsa College of Law and graduated in 2012. He has been practicing in Council Bluffs since 2012.
Mr. Thorson’s fields of special interest are personal injury and worker’s compensation law. He also has extensive experience in criminal defense and business law. Mr. Thorson represents a number of privately held and nonprofit companies in Iowa and Nebraska.

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I recently had a case where an older woman who lost her leg due to nursing home negligence had nowhere else to turn. In that case, my office took on the nursing home and insurance companies to get this woman a generous settlement. Prior to the pandemic, I also assisted an older lady who received a botched carpal tunnel surgery. In that case, my office took on the hospital system and large insurance companies at trial and received a generous plaintiff's verdict in favor of our client.
How did you build a successful practice?
By being honest, trustworthy, and in tune with the needs of each client. You need to go above and beyond at all times.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Someone they can trust and someone that is easy to work with. Clients should not feel intimidated by their attorney. Client's should feel completely comfortable with the person who is representing them.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It is very important to know the demographic of the area. That includes familiarity with local courts and court procedures, familiarity with local police, judges, and other attorneys. Familiarity with local roads and other accident-prone areas is also vital. With local knowledge I can also provide recommendations for other nearby services.

Provide an outlook on a path for resolution. I will set out a roadmap that allows clients to fully understand the process and realistic expectations for a successful outcome on their legal matter.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
My team and I strive to treat each client and each case with the utmost respect and understanding. We always try to be available for our clients. We quickly respond to our clients when other attorneys may not be as readily available or responsive. We prioritize our client's needs by placing emphasis on direct and open communication.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Being able to help people that have nowhere to turn. It is very rewarding to be able to be the person that can assist them.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
My wife, Felicia, and I have two young boys. I enjoy coaching soccer for my oldest son's team. I also enjoy playing golf and spending time with my family.
Are you involved in your community?
I coach youth soccer. In the past, I volunteered at women's shelters and the food bank.
