About Sidney
Sidney B. Margolis earned a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy Degree from the business school at the University of Illinois at Champaign, Illinois, and immediately thereafter earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the law school at the University of Illinois at Champaign, Illinois. Mr. Margolis is also a Certified Public Accountant.
Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Margolis worked in the estate and gift tax division of the Internal Revenue Service in Chicago, Illinois, for four years. Immediately upon leaving the IRS he went into private law practice in, and for more than 35 years has continually practiced in, Chicago representing individuals and small and medium-sized businesses with their income and estate tax challenges, which include: (1) planning and structuring business and personal transactions to reduce or eliminate federal and Illinois income and estate taxes; (2) drafting wills and personal trusts with a view toward reducing or eliminating estate taxes and for the simple administration of estates; (3) the preparation of sophisticated individual, corporate, partnership, estate, and trust income tax returns; (4) appearing before IRS agents when an audit is being conducted; (5) appearing before courts challenging IRS positions; (6) guiding executors and administrators through probate proceedings; and (7) advising and counseling individuals who have won multi-million dollar lottery prizes.
