I was born and raised in Seattle, and am pleased to practice in our great Pacific Northwest. This is my home. I graduated from law school in 1984 and went to work for the Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. This provided an opportunity to develop trial skills and the ability to present cases to judges and juries. From 1986-1990, I was the managing attorney for the main Seattle Office for Hyatt Legal Services. This position provided an opportunity to analyze and solve various issues that confront a general practice such as: Domestic Relations, Criminal Defense, Bankruptcy, Real Estate, Wills, and miscellaneous consumer matters. It also provided many opportunities to practice in State and Federal court. From 1990-97, I was an insurance defense attorney for the Seattle law firm of Alexander & Bierman. For several years, I defended hundreds of cases on the insurance company's behalf. I know how insurance companies value claims and the techniques they employ in an effort to detract from the value of a claim. In 1997, I opened my own law practice. I specialize in representing people injured by the negligence of others against the insurance company. Let me use my experience from years of defending the insurance company to your advantage. Michael E. Mazon Attorney At Law Lawyer.com Member Questionnaire Please describe a case(s) in the last year or two where you made a big difference. I had a case against a prominent hotel in the pacific northwest. The hotel itself was brand new and was celebrating its grand opening. My client fell on the stairwell within the hotel and incurred severe injuries. Others had previously been injured. by this stairwell. I brought suit and was able to obtain reasonable compensation for my client. The hotel completely reconfigured that part of the stairwell in question. How did you build a successful practice? I built a successful pracitce by focusing on one client at a time. What should clients look for in a lawyer? Ultimately, a client should look for a lawyer that is well versed in their specific field of practice. In other words, if a client has an injury claim, they want a lawyer that has dealt with that type of injury and the accident that caused it. It's kind of like choosing a doctor. How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases? Local knowledge is important if the case goes to litigation. For example, an attorney should have knowledge of the local rules in the county where the case has been filed. What information can you provide in a free phone consultation? I can provide all the information in a telephone consultation that I could in a live in-office consultation. I can educate the client in all aspects of the injury case starting with the claims phase all the way through a jury trial. What information do you need in a free phone consultation? Just the basics: date of the accident, location, liability, insurance, and type of injury. What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community? The fact that I had 8 years of experience defending the insurance company before I began representing the injured person against the insurance company. I can anticipate what the insurance company will do. I know their tactics and the tricks they attempt to pull. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Obtaining reasonable compensation for my client. Ultimately, that's all any personal injury attorney can do for their client. What are your other interests in addition to law? Music, travel, golf, family. Are you involved in your community? I'm a member of the Washington State Association for Justice and actively contribute to the American Cancer Society.

Jason S. Newcombe Criminal Defense, DUI Defense, and Traffic Ticket Defense Washington State Attorneys, PLLC | Everett and Snohomish County Offices Call (844) 925-2943 | www.washingtonstateattorneys.com A Snohomish County Defense Attorney Who Actually Shows Up for You Getting arrested or charged with a crime can happen to anyone. Good people have bad nights. Hardworking people make one mistake after decades of doing everything right. Loving parents find themselves in a domestic incident that spirals out of control in minutes. Careful drivers get pulled over after a single glass of wine with dinner. If any of that sounds like your situation, please understand that you are not alone, and you are not beyond help. For more than thirty years, Jason S. Newcombe has been the attorney that Snohomish County residents turn to when life has taken an unexpected turn. From the Everett office of Washington State Attorneys, PLLC at 1721 Hewitt Ave, Suite 521C, Everett, WA 98201, Jason and his team defend people facing DUI charges, criminal allegations, and traffic tickets throughout the county. We understand what you are going through, because we have walked thousands of clients through exactly this kind of moment. Jason is a recognized Washington State Super Lawyer, an honor extended only to attorneys who have demonstrated a sustained record of professional achievement and peer recognition. Even more meaningful, Jason has earned more than 330 positive client reviews online, each one written by a real Washingtonian who wanted others to know what it was like to have Jason in their corner when they needed someone most. Call (844) 925-2943 today for a free, confidential consultation. Criminal Defense in Snohomish County A criminal charge is not just a legal problem. It is a life problem. A conviction can follow you into employment background checks, housing applications, professional licensing decisions, and for non citizens, into immigration proceedings. The stress of a pending case touches everything, your sleep, your family, your ability to focus at work. We take that seriously, because we have seen what it does to the people who come to us. Our team handles the full range of Snohomish County misdemeanor and felony cases, including assault, domestic violence, theft, drug possession, harassment, malicious mischief, hit and run, reckless driving, no contact order violations, minor in possession, and more. Our defense begins with a careful review of the evidence, the 911 call, body camera and dashboard camera footage, the officer's report, witness statements, medical records, and any relevant digital evidence. We look for every weakness in the State's case and every defense the facts will support. Where self defense, mistaken identity, lack of intent, or an unlawful search applies, we push for dismissal, suppression, or acquittal. Where a negotiated resolution makes sense, we use our knowledge of local prosecutors and judges to pursue reduced charges, diversion, or deferred dispositions that protect the client's record whenever possible. DUI Defense in Snohomish County DUI defense has been a cornerstone of Jason's practice since he tried his very first DUI case as a prosecutor in Oregon in 1996. His former prosecutor background gives him a real working understanding of how the State builds a DUI case, and, just as valuably, where those cases tend to fall apart. Every Washington DUI presents several angles of attack. Did the officer have reasonable suspicion for the stop? Were the field sobriety tests administered according to the specific NHTSA protocols the science requires? Was the Draeger Alcotest 9510 breath test machine properly calibrated, was the operator currently certified, and was the fifteen minute observation period actually observed? The Draeger Alcotest 9510 has been the target of sustained source code review and scientific challenge by Washington defense attorneys, including real concerns about breath temperature correction and fuel cell degradation. A breath test is evidence, not a verdict, and it can be challenged. One deadline every Snohomish County DUI client must understand. Under Washington's implied consent law, you have only seven days from the date of arrest to request a Department of Licensing administrative hearing to protect your driver's license. Miss that deadline, and the administrative suspension is automatic no matter what happens in the criminal case. If you or someone you love has been arrested for DUI, please call (844) 925-2943 right away so we can protect your license while we build your defense. Traffic Ticket Defense in Snohomish County Many drivers do not realize that simply paying a traffic ticket is a guilty finding that will follow them on their driving record. The insurance premium increases over the next three to five years often cost far more than the ticket itself. For CDL holders and teen drivers on an intermediate license, the consequences can be even more serious. We handle speeding, school zone and construction zone tickets, negligent driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, HOV violations, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, no insurance citations, and other infractions throughout the county. Before you mail that check, call us at (844) 925-2943. A short conversation could save you thousands. That kind of local experience matters. Every courthouse in Pierce County has its own personality, its own prosecutors, and its own commissioners and judges. Jason knows the people, the practices, and the unwritten rules that make the difference between a case that drags on and a case that gets resolved the right way. DUI Defense in Tacoma and Pierce County DUI defense has been a cornerstone of Jason's practice since he tried his first DUI case as a prosecutor in 1996. That prosecutor's chair perspective, combined with decades of defense work in Pierce County, gives Jason a real edge in how he reads a case file and plans an attack. We challenge DUI cases on multiple fronts at once. Was the stop supported by reasonable suspicion? Were the field sobriety tests administered according to NHTSA protocols? Was the Draeger Alcotest 9510 breath test machine properly calibrated, was the operator currently certified, and was the fifteen minute observation period actually conducted? The Draeger has been the subject of serious, sustained scientific challenges by Washington defense attorneys, including concerns about breath temperature correction and fuel cell degradation. One critical point for Pierce County DUI clients: you have only seven days from the date of arrest to request a Department of Licensing administrative hearing to protect your driver's license. If you have been arrested for DUI in Tacoma, Lakewood, Puyallup, or anywhere in Pierce County, please call (844) 925-2943 right away so we can protect your license while we build your defense. Tacoma Criminal Defense A criminal charge can follow you for life. It affects jobs at JBLM and in the Port, it affects your ability to rent in Stadium or on the Hilltop, and it affects your family. Our Tacoma criminal defense lawyers handle the full range of Pierce County misdemeanors and felonies, including assault, domestic violence, theft, drug possession, harassment, malicious mischief, hit and run, reckless driving, no contact order violations, and minor in possession. We review the 911 call, the body camera and dashboard camera footage, the officer's report, the witness statements, and every piece of digital evidence. Then we push hard for dismissal, suppression, or acquittal where the facts support it, and for reduced charges or diversion when a negotiated resolution serves the client best. If you have been charged with a crime, received a traffic ticket, or have been injured because of someone’s negligence, the choice you make in an attorney will have long lasting consequences. Criminal charges can result in Article 15 and Chapter proceedings, jail, fines, and treatment. All of these things are expensive, and potentially life altering. Traffic tickets, while less serious, can affect your insurance rate, and even your license. An accident can result in massive hospital bills, suffering and bankruptcy. When you need help, our team is here for you. At Durflinger Oliver & Associates you don't have to settle for a single attorney when you can hire a team of experienced lawyers to fight for you. Our attorneys have a half century of collective litigation experience. That means you can rest assured that your case will receive the benefit of 50 years of courtroom practice and experience working with judges, insurance adjusters, and opposing attorneys. Best of all, you get this team at a great value, so you don't have to settle for a single, less experienced lawyer. Founding Partner and Of Counsel attorney James Oliver paid for college by serving in the Army Reserves. In college, he co-captained his university’s NCAA Men’s Volleyball team. As a result of his athletic experience and military service, he understands the value of a team, and the needs and concerns of service members and their families. That’s why he built this firm, and that’s why he instituted the Military Discount offered to service members by Durflinger Oliver & Associates. Founding partner Natalie Durflinger graduated with honors from both the University of Washington and Gonzaga School of Law. At Gonzaga, Natalie was a Thomas More Scholar, and founded the university’s American Civil Liberties Chapter, serving as President. She also performed community service locally, and in Central America before following her passion for criminal defense and establishing Durflinger Oliver & Associates with James Oliver. Natalie’s practice is dedicated almost exclusively to misdemeanor criminal defense including domestic violence, driving offenses, drug charges, and property crimes. She has an established reputation as an aggressive defense attorney who is respected by judges and prosecutors alike. Natalie also has shared her Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure knowledge as a College Adjunct Professor. Senior Associate Martha McLaughlin heads up the firm’s Personal Injury section. She is an Honors Graduate from the University of Puget Sound, and also from Seattle University School of Law. Martha's husband of 30 years is a retired Air Force officer, so Martha knows the difficulties endured by service members and their families. She also knows how to protect you and your family following an accident, or criminal charges. As a former prosecutor, she has been on both sides of the fight and understands what judges are looking for. Martha’s dedicated personal injury paralegal brings three decades of injury litigation experience to the firm, and the two professionals work closely with the firm’s other attorneys to ensure exceptional results for each of our clients. Tracey Munger represents clients accused of felony offenses, and clients in danger of losing their children in dependency proceedings. Her litigation experience began in Louisiana during law school, and continued on into Washington in 2002. She has represented clients in almost every court in the Puget Sound region, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Court as well. She has won cases as simple as traffic infraction to as complex as federal drug trafficking and everything in between. As head of the Felony Section, Tracey decides which cases the firm will accept, and which staff to assign as support. Her reputation as a “street fighter” has been earned through countless negotiations, hearings, motions, and trials. After 14 years of practice in Western Washington, Tracey has a great understanding of, and appreciation for, the sacrifices of our service members and their families, and she works hard to protect them. Durflinger Oliver & Associates Of Counsel attorney Andrew Huff is a Seattle native who started his career as a prosecuting attorney with Kitsap County before being hired as an associate by well-known criminal defense firm Bennett Raney Moran and Gianneschi. In 2001, he went out on his own and started the Law Office of Andrew Charles Huff in Seattle. Andrew is a former board member of “Citizens for Judicial Excellence,” member of “National College for DUI Defense” and the “Order of Barristers.“ He is also an experienced Judge Pro Tem, which means that he clearly understands what needs to be done to protect his clients. Andrew is a valued teammate of Durflinger Oliver, and his contributions to the accused have brought relief to hundreds of Washington families. No legal team is worth a thing without high quality support staff, and the Durflinger Oliver team is exceptional. In fact, Durflinger Oliver has twice been awarded the “Firm of the Year” award by the Pierce County Chapter of NALS – The National Association of Legal Professionals. The staff at Durflinger Oliver make the weekly team meetings possible and productive and ensure that every client file is regularly team reviewed.
