About Sonjui
Sonjui L. Kumar is a founding member in the law firm of Kumar Pathak, LLC. She has been a practicing attorney for the past twenty years, originally practicing in the Hartford, Connecticut area and since 1995 in Georgia.
Ms. Kumar's primary area of practice is acting as general counsel to companies without in-house legal departments, advising them on employment, contract, corporate and other related matters and supervising outside counsel, when necessary. Her practice also includes complex commercial transactions, corporate mergers and acquisitions, contract review and drafting and trust and estate planning for high net worth individuals, including succession planning for privately held and family-owned businesses. Her client list includes numerous entrepreneurs, technology, real estate and service companies in the Southeast.
Attorney Kumar is a frequent speaker on issues relating to women and minorities in the profession, small and solo firm practice and business development. Ms. Kumar is an active member of the South Asian community in Georgia and nationally. She is currently on the Executive Committee of the North American South Asian Bar Association (NASABA), serving as its President-Elect, and is also a past member of the Board of Trustees of the NASABA Foundation. Ms. Kumar also is a charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE), Atlanta Chapter, serving as Co-Chair of the Women’s Committee. Ms. Kumar has served for the past two years on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia. She was recently awarded the State Bar of Georgia’s 2008 Commitment to Equality Award. She is a Past President and Board member of the IndusBar of Georgia and an active member of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL). Ms. Kumar is a member of the American Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Association.
Ms. Kumar graduated with high honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in West Hartford, Connecticut. She received her B.A. (cum laude) from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.
