About Stephen
Stephen is a frequent speaker at employment law seminars for attorneys, human resource professionals and employees. He has also provided training for conferences organized by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and has spoken before the commissioners of the EEOC on Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Prior to championing employee rights for workers, Stephen worked for one of Maryland’s largest defense firms that represented employers. In that position, he saw how frequently individuals were not getting the representation they deserved in pursuing workplace disputes.
Stephen has developed an extensive practice in representing executives in negotiations for employment contracts, separation terms, change-of-control plans and restrictive covenants, including non-competition and non-disclosure agreements. He also regularly represents physicians, health-care professionals, professors and scientists in employment and licensure matters.
Stephen is no stranger to the courtroom, having obtained verdicts in both Maryland and Federal courts for his clients. Further, he has successfully mediated numerous cases in the Federal court for Maryland. He has successfully litigated contract disputes, class and collective actions for overtime pay and pension benefits, and discrimination and retaliation cases, amongst others.
Stephen is an active member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Maryland Employment Lawyers Association, the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Maryland State Bar Association.
Stephen graduated from Georgetown Law School with high honors and Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University. He worked for two U.S. senators during his college and law school years.
Stephen is an avid reader, enjoys spending time in the mountains and at the beach with his dogs and family. An ex-marathon runner with sore knees, Stephen still runs – but much, much slower – and has taken-up the practice of Yoga with the hopes of being flexible enough to touch his toes one day.
