About Steve
Steve Freeman was born in Los Angeles in 1946, received his Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law in 1969 and received his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Business in 1982. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1970 and began his legal career as a Los Angeles County Deputy Public Defender. While a public defender, he tried more than 10 jury cases and numerous other court cases. He also tried and participated in the appeal of a precedent-setting juvenile court case that established a juvenile's right to appellate counsel, to free transcripts on appeal and to be informed, in advance of trial, of the charges.
In 1972 Mr. Freeman joined the faculty of the Department of Business Law at California State University, Northridge. He received tenure in 1976, and he was promoted to Professor in 1980, acting as Chair of the Department for several years. While at CSUN, he taught classes in both business law and management strategy. Mr. Freeman retired from CSUN in 2003 and was awarded status as a Professor Emeritus.
Over the last 35 years, Mr. Freeman has handled complex court cases, including defending a director of a failed bank in a suit by the FDIC, litigating a $500 million dollar entertainment industry dispute and handling law and motion and appellate matters in several large-development construction defect actions. In one construction defect case, Mr. Freeman obtained summary judgment in a 10-year-old case and prevailed through several appeals, eventually collecting more than $1 million in attorney fees for his insurer clients.
Mr. Freeman has also been a partner in two firms that focus on representing national and international insurers in coverage disputes, and, in that role, he prepared hundreds of coverage opinions, engaged in inter-insurance company litigations and participated in dozens of mediations representing his insurer clients against other insurers or against plaintiffs seeking damages on account of an insured's conduct.
Mr. Freeman is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell.
At Glaser Weil Mr. Freeman focuses on coverage issues connected to title insurance policies and works with the real estate group in this regard.
