About Susan

Susan G. Amstadter began her career in 1982 with a small litigation firm in Chicago specializing in the defense of fidelity and surety companies. There she gained experience in the areas of construction law, banking law, and probate law. In Washington, DC, her practice focused in the areas of commercial transactions, securities law, and merger and acquisition issues for banks, insurance and utility companies.

Since 2006, Susan has supervised law student interns in the Transactional Law Clinic at Gonzaga, drafting charter and governance documents for both profit and non-profit organizations, employment agreements, member and shareholder agreements, licensing agreements, and vendor and customer contracts.

She has devoted many pro-bono hours to submitting applications for federal tax exempt status. Susan enjoys her opportunities at the lectern whether speaking on commercial transactions or non-profit governance issues. At Murphy, Bantz & Bury, her practice has expanded to the fields of real estate and bankruptcy law.

At Murphy, Bantz & Bury, we are committed to building lasting relationships with our clients. We are therefore dedicated to providing the best legal representation within your budgeting and ability to pay. Our fees often vary depending on the facts of your case. We also re-evaluate your case at regular intervals, before making a further financial commitment to the case. Alternative dispute resolution is also used to reduce fees, costs and time involved in litigation. We also conduct mediations, so that a dispute may be brought to us to resolve as a neutral. Mediation can be your least expensive and quickest option if the parties are sincere about participating. Our standard rate for attorneys is between $225 and $250 per hour. We use legal assistance for some work at a reduced fee of $75 per hour. Some work, such as estate planning, Chapter 7 bankruptcies and evictions can be billed at a flat rate. In some cases we may take a matter on a contingency arrangement, but this is rare in the type of work we emphasize. In most cases, an advance payment of fees is required in an amount depending upon the type of matter. This is not a “retainer” but is a fund from which the monthly billing is paid. When the advance payment is expended, further advance payments may be required. We also accept credit cards and can arrange payment plans. Murphy, Bantz & Bury offers an upfront free consultation in person or by telephone. You can also submit your case on-line at www.mbblegal.net. During this consultation we discuss an estimate of the costs and possible outcomes of representation. This allows clients to weigh their options and chose what is best for them. It is even possible to purchase and gift pre-paid legal services. In short, we try to give you every opportunity to obtain the affordable legal services that you need.
