About Sue

Sue Lain obtained her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Willamette University in 1987. She later went on to complete her juris doctorate at Lewis and Clark, Northwestern School of Law in 1993.

During law school, Ms. Lain clerked for Smith, Freed, Heald and Chock, PC, and for the Bonneville Power Administration. After law school, she worked in private practice before joining the Washington County District Attorney's Office in 1995.

While working at the office of the Washington County District Attorney, she specialized in DUIIs, DUII diversions, juvenile dependency, juvenile delinquency, and arson cases. She gained extensive training and experience working with child abuse cases. Ms. Lain tried approximately 200 cases during her tenure as a deputy district attorney.

While working as a deputy district attorney, Ms. Lain put on officer trainings, worked with the CASA program, was a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team, and was a member of the Sexual Assault Task Force.

Ms. Lain has been a member of the Washington County Bar Association board for several years, and was its President during the 2000 - 2001 fiscal year. Currently, Ms. Lain serves as the Secretary of the Washington County Bar Association board of directors. She is also a former member of the Washington County Local Professional Responsibility Committee and has been appointed to act as bar counsel in disciplinary matters involving lawyers. She is also a past member of the Uniform Criminal Jury Instructions committee. She currently serves as a member of the Clackamas County Local Professional Responsibility Committee.

After her ten years with the District Attorney's office, Ms. Lain now utilizes both her trial and her negotiation skills in the civil arena. Ms. Lain accepts cases involving contract drafting, contract disputes, wills, employment issues, victims' rights, product liability, personal injury, medical malpractice and DUII diversions.

In addition to her law practice, Ms. Lain volunteers her time to various legal organizations, including the Oregon State Bar and the Washington County Bar Association. Ms. Lain is committed to excellence in the legal profession and assists the Oregon State Bar by prosecuting attorneys for acts of malfeasance. She has also written jury instructions for use by attorneys and judges statewide.
