About Suzie
Suzie S. Thorn, Esq., was born in San Francisco, California, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley and with the Order of the Coif from Hastings College of Law, San Francisco. She received her Certification as a Family Law Specialist in 1980 from the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.
It might be said that "Ms. Thorn knows divorce A to Z", having built her own family law practice over many years of experience covering all aspects of legal separation and dissolution and such other practice areas as prenuptial/postnuptial agreements, and domestic partnership and paternity issues. Ms. Thorn has developed particular expertise in the areas of high asset property division and multi-jurisdictional/international issues in divorce.
As may be more fully recognized in the detail of her organizational affiliations listed below, Ms. Thorn is a world traveler. She has colleagues throughout the U.S. and is networked internationally with colleagues and various resource professionals in many countries.She has been a member of the Board of Managers, USA Chapter, of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1997.
As a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Ms. Thorn has served on the National Board of Governors and as Chair of the Racial and Ethnic Bias Committee. She was Northern California Chapter President in 1981. Currently, Ms. Thorn is President-Elect (assumption of the Presidency in November 2005) of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Foundation, where she has also served as Board Member and Treasurer.
Recognized internationally, Ms. Thorn has served as Presenter and Group Leader to the International Commission on Couple and Family Relations conferences in Germany, Hungary, England and Estonia; as a Delegate for the Citizen Ambassador Program to Czechoslovakia and the USSR, 1991; as Guest Speaker at the First World Congress on Family Law and Children's Rights in Australia, 1993; and as Chair, Executive Fund Raising Committee, at the Second World Congress on Family Law and Children's Rights in San Francisco, 1997.
Currently, Ms. Thorn is a Trustee of the International Commission on Couple and Family Relations Trust, a United Kingdom Registered Charity, as well as a Member of the Board of Kids' Turn, San Francisco, a charitable organization which endeavors to assist families and especially children through the rigors of the divorce process.
Ms. Thorn has served on the Executive Committee and as Chair and Treasurer of the Family Law Section of the California State Bar. She has served as Judge pro tempore and Section Law Judge pro tempore for the San Francisco Superior Court.
