Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I had a workers compensation case last year under the new prevailing factor standard in Kansas that the doctor I sent her to would not give a prevailing factor opinion without all of her previous medical records due to some preexisting physical problems, so I took it to court anyway and the Judge ruled in her favor at a preliminary hearing, she received two successful surgeries and a good compromise settlement out of court.
How did you build a successful practice?
I built my practice on hard work and referrals from previous clients who were pleased with the outcome of the case as well as referrals from other attorneys and some advertising.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for an attorney who returns their calls as soon as possible and does not have a legal assistant handle all of the calls as well as works hard to answer all of their questions about what is going on in their cases and to try to explain the law in layman's terms so they understand.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important to the success of cases based upon prior experience, etc.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
In a free phone consultation, I try to see if they have a case and if they do, whether or not they have a chance in court.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
What differentiates me from other lawyers in my community on workers compensation cases is that I was one of the first women in the city of Wichita to actually try workers compensation cases as it was rare at the time and I have experience through over 25 years of law changes in successfully representing clients. I also have a lot of experience in personal injury auto accidents and other accidents due to negligence. I am on the Board of Governors for the Kansas Association for Justice and have been since around 1999. I was elected parliamentarian from 2000-2001.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing clients get better after their injuries as a result of me going to court and getting them a good doctor or recommending good doctors in auto accidents and then see them get better and after they have lost everything; regain dignity through money compensation for their damages.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
My other interests are : I have a bachelor in fine arts and like to draw and paint; I love movies; enjoy the outdoors and love animals. My husband and I have adopted several rescue animals over 22 years.
Are you involved in your community?
Community involvement involves going to church and they are active in helping in the community. I also like to donate to charities involving helping the homeless.
