About Thomas

At the law firm of Helms & Associates, P.C., we provide comprehensive client services to people who have been injured or incurred economic losses. Founded by attorney Thomas J. Helms in 1998, Helms & Associates, P.C. has worked closely with hundreds of individuals and families throughout Colorado to help them meet the challenges that may result from an injury, economic loss or death in a family. We have represented clients in lawsuits throughout Colorado on cases involving medical negligence, trucking collisions, automobile collisions, hospital negligence, wrongful death and insurance disputes. We don't advertise on television, radio or billboards. Most of our clients find us through the recommendation of people who have seen us in action, often former clients or other attorneys. We respect your privacy and will never seek publicity for your case in order to advance our own interests. We handle a limited number of cases and devote considerable attention to each case and client. If you need advice concerning your legal rights, injuries or damages, call us for a free consultation. We represent people who have been hurt in car accidents, truck accidents, medical malpractice by a physician or health care provider, and many other types of cases. We will answer your questions promptly and in confidence. It is important that you contact an attorney quickly because every case has time limits for the filing of a lawsuit. We accept cases on a contingent fee basis, which means that we collect no attorney's fees unless we succeed in recovering damages for you through settlement negotiations or trial. Once you become a client of Helms & Associates, P.C., you will find that we are completely committed to working hard on your case and achieving the best possible results for you.

Lawyer.com Member Questionnaire

Please describe a case(s) in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented a family who had an eleven year old child die following medical treatment in a local hospital. I reviewed thousands of pages of medical records, consulted with several surgical experts and resolved this case favorably for the family.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should be comfortable with their attorney. Clients should have an attorney who takes an interest in their case, returns phone calls promptly and keeps the client advised of all pertinent developments, favorable or unfavorable.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I will talk with the potential client to get an outline of their claim. I'll give them good advice concerning the law and the prospects of prevailing in the case. I'll determine what documents need to be reviewed and assist the client in obtaining and evaluating the claim.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I need the date of the event, the identity of the other person or entity, a brief description of the potential case and a description of the documents that support the case.

Are you involved in your community?
I coach an adult Special Olympic basketball team. I have volunteered as a judge for the Douglas County high schools mock trial competition. I have volunteered as a judge for University of Denver law student trial competition. I have been on panels at the University of Colorado law school competition and have spoken at continuing legal education seminars through the Colorado Bar Association. I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association.
