Mr. Schmitt is a member of the Collections & Commercial Real Estate, Municipal/Local Government and Probate/Trust & Fiduciary Litigation Practice Groups. As a member of the Collections & Commercial Real Estate practice group, Mr. Schmitt assists clients in achieving and enforcing money judgments, as well as advising and assisting condominium associations with collections and interpretations of association documents under Ohio law. As part of the Municipal/Local Government practice group, Mr. Schmitt has experience assisting several of the firm's municipal clients, particularly on Income Tax Collections, compliance with Ohio's Sunshine Laws, prosecution of criminal offenses, and legislative drafting issues. Mr. Schmitt's probate practice focuses on estate planning, related litigation in probate courts, achieving contested guardianships and pursuing former fiduciaries to recover from the estate.

 

Mr. Schmitt has served as a guest lecturer for the Elected Officials Academy, conducted by the Center for Public Administration and Public Policy at Kent State University, and has provided additional training programs for local municipalities on Ohio's Sunshine Laws. Additionally, Mr. Schmitt is an active contributor to Ohio's Wills for Heroes, a program created to assist first responders and their families here in Ohio; a need that was recognized after families of deceased 9/11 fire and police personnel faced legal complications due to a lack of simple estate planning documents.

 

Prior to law school, Mr. Schmitt was employed in retail and property management. Additionally, Mr. Schmitt was a teacher in Dayton-area school districts, and maintains a current Ohio teaching license. During law school, Mr. Schmitt spent a summer working and studying Irish and European Law in Dublin, Ireland. He is an Eagle Scout, and enjoys traveling with his fiancee, following his favorite baseball and college basketball teams, running, and concerts.
