Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
A memorable case involved a family matter, where the mother prevented the father from developing a relationship with their young daughter. The mother fled to another state and ceased all contact with the father. After ten long months in the court system, the father received substantial parenting time with his daughter. There was not a dry eye in the courtroom, it was a really heart wrenching case.
How did you build a successful practice?
I started my career in Charlotte in 2012, without knowing anyone. I was performing contract work, reviewing and sorting evidence. I sought various opportunities to attract clients including referral services, word of mouth, and creating a website. I worked out of my home office. The next step was to get a "virtual office," and rented out the nice conference space for face-to-face meetings. I then moved into our current location in the "heart" of the business district in Charlotte - Ballantyne. This location has attracted a good clientele and I continue to network and grow the business. Ultimately, my passion is helping people and if I can make a difference I will- that is my main ingredient for success.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
No matter what lawyer a client chooses he or she should select the lawyer they trust and can confide in. A lawyer who is sympathetic to their issues. A firm that is not a "clock-watcher" or driven by billable hours. My sense of compassion and justice prevails in my drive to succeed on behalf of my client and educating our clients on the law and procedures assists them in a better understanding of the entire process.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important; each county and court has their own rules and procedures. Knowing the county's staff, judges, methods and "politics" insures better success for my clients.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
For a free phone consultation the firm will be able to provide a general overview of the events, and filing deadlines. For a more personalized approach we suggest clients schedule an in office consultation.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
To make an efficient assessment we would need the client's basic information, information on any filings, scheduled hearings, name of other parties attorney. Overall details of their situation and what they ultimately want to achieve as a successful outcome.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
What sets our firm apart and the most important is the attention to our clients. Additionally our attention to detail, compassionate lawyering, and a consistent drive for results distinguishes the Turner Law Firm from other firms.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Making a difference for our clients and we determining ""success"" is if our clients feel they resolved their issues to the best of our abilities. Everyone's definition of satisfaction and success is different. Educating our clients on the law and procedures assists them in a better understanding of their outcomes.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy gardening, fine dining, and jazz concerts.
Are you involved in your community?
It is important to pay it forward. The firm welcomes law students each semester, participation in the local Chamber of Commerce and advocating for children's rights locally round out the remaining time in my passion to help people.
