About Timothy
Timothy J. O'Brien heads the litigation and trial team at Bakke Norman, S.C. He concentrates his practice in personal injury and criminal defense, while also representing individuals in civil rights, employment, and business disputes. Mr. O'Brien is certified as a trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is also recognized by his peers for his expertise in issues related to intoxicated driving, frequently receiving referrals from other attorneys, and speaking at continuing legal education seminars on the subject. He is a former prosecutor for five area municipalities.
The attorneys at Bakke Norman, S.C. understand that resolution of legal disputes is often best accomplished outside of a courtroom. We encourage our clients to pursue alternative methods of dispute resolution. However, there must be a willingness and ability to take cases to trial when necessary. Mr. O'Brien has tried cases to juries in both state and federal court, on matters such as personal injury, police misconduct, employment discrimination, operating while intoxicated, and misdemeanor and felony criminal charges. He regularly appears in numerous circuit courts in Western Wisconsin.
Mr. O'Brien is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is active in the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In addition to presenting seminars to others in the legal community, he has been a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Wisconsin, is a past president of both the State Bar Young Lawyers' Division and St. Croix Valley Bar Association. For the last five years, he has chaired the 10th District Self-Represented Litigant's Initiative. In 2004, he received the State Bar of Wisconsin's Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award. Mr. O'Brien is also the immediate Past-President of the New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. O'Brien practices primarily out of the New Richmond office, but represents clients in a wide geographic area of Northwest Wisconsin.
