Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I had a 2 count armed robbery (as well as other charges) trial at the 3rd circuit court in early March of 2020. The evidence was shaky, the witnesses were either absent or were contradicting previous testimony, the prosecutor was not prepared, and the detective in charge of the case had really failed at establishing more than the basic evidence needed to prove the case. I used every mistake the prosecutor made against him in questioning witnesses and in arguments to the jury. He was rattled. The detective became really confused during my cross examination because he had no case. He came across as a liar and the result was not guilty on the armed robbery charges. In another case I had the jury chanting "where is eric" in the jury room.
How did you build a successful practice?
I began as a public defender and made contacts throughout the courts and via word of mouth or return clients I was able to build a solid practice.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Honesty. Sometimes brutal honesty. If any attorney promises an outcome, that person is lying. Clients should also look for an attorney who can explain the legal process as well as clearly explain the options and choices that affect the client.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is imperative. An attorney should know how judges and prosecutors approach cases to determine the best strategy on each individual case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
explain the basics of the initiation of a criminal case, any knowledge or experience with the type of charges the client faces and knowledge related to the venue the case is in. Price may be a discussion, but a good lawyer does not lead with negotiating a price.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
the charges, any criminal history, a brief statement of facts for the case from the client, and all contact information - all phone numbers, alternate contact information, and email address.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
transparency. I feel that many attorneys are hesitant to provide information to clients for various reasons, but often it is because the attorney thinks that some information upfront will confuse the client and would be a waste of time.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Knowing that I have help guide a client through what is often a maze of options and decisions to the point that the best outcome for the client was reached.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
music, sports, hot sauce, and playing with my son.
Are you involved in your community?
My involvement in the community has been on hold a bit during the pandemic, but in the past have helped clients pro bono with expungements and other post conviction issues.
