OHOH State Lawyer Additional Information: Bio: Judge Anthony Capizzi Montgomery County Juvenile Court 380 West Second Street Dayton, OH 45422 (937) 496-6602 acapizzi@mcjcohio.org Judge Capizzi serves as Montgomery County, Ohio Juvenile Court Judge and was first elected in 2004. He previously served as an Acting Judge for Dayton Municipal Court. Judge Capizzi was admitted to the Ohio and Federal Bars in 1979, receiving his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in and a B.A. from Saint Bonaventure University. He is also a graduate of Leadership Dayton. Judge Capizzi serves as Trustee on the Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College, on the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Children, Families & the Courts, the Advisory Committee on Case Management, and as Chairman of the Ohio Juvenile Judges Curriculum Committee. He also serves as Past-President of the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges and on the OAJCJ Executive Committee. Nationally, Judge Capizzi serves as a Director of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges Association (NCJFCJ), and serves as Chair of the NCJFCJs Juvenile Drug Court Training and Technical Assistance Project Advisory Committee. He has over the last eight years served as Treasurer of the NCJFCJ, Chairman of the Audit and Finance Committees, and Vice-Chair of the Juvenile and Family Law Advisory Committee. In addition, Judge Capizzi served as a member of the Executive Committees Guiding Coalition, Finance, Governance, Legislative and Diversity Committees Judge Capizzi serves as a Senior Judicial Fellow for RECLAIMING FUTURES and supervises Reclaiming Futures judicial training. Judge Capizzi co-authored an article entitled A Model for Judicial Leadership, Juvenile and Family Court Journal, Summer 2006, Vol.57, and No.3, which addresses judges roles in communities responses to juvenile substance abuse concerns, and authored What You Need to Know About Privacy, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Protections for Courts, Future Trends in State Courts, 2012, published by the National Center for State Courts. Judge Capizzi teaches at the Ohio Judicial College and lectures at state and national conferences focusing on judicial leadership, alternative-differential response, the role and responsibilities of guardians ad litem, privacy, juvenile substance abuse, truancy and mental health issues. In Montgomery County, Judge Capizzi has overseen the growth of Drug Court from serving approximately 20 to 115 youth per week. He led the initiative to create the Evening Reporting Center, implemented the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI), initiated the Pro Se Services program to help those clients that choose to file legal documents without attorney representation, and strengthened the Courts Reclaiming Futures and Natural Helpers programs to better serve youth and their families in our community. In addition, Judge Capizzi has led moving our court into the 21st Century technology-wise to streamline the hearing process by providing a more efficient case action procedure. Prior to his election to the bench, Judge Capizzi maintained a full-time law practice for over 25 years, specializing in juvenile law, family law, and litigation. When he retired from private practice, he had been a partner for over 16 years at the law firm of Harker, Capizzi, & Hall. Over the last 35 years, Judge Capizzi has held leadership positions in various government, civic and professional organizations that focus on family and childrens issues. He served as a City of Dayton Commissioner from 1986-1998, as the President of Neighborhoods, USA, and as the Chairman of the Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee of the National League of Cities. Judge Capizzi and his wife, Leigh Ann, reside in Washington Township, Ohio. Judge Capizzi, known as a workaholic, continues to maintain the enthusiasm and energy for the welfare of children that has been his trademark throughout his legal career.
