Tony Kim is an attorney at Schad, Diamond & Shedden. Mr. Kim represents clients in class action lawsuits and complex commercial litigation.
Tony Kim has successfully litigated many cases, including a class action against an insurance company where Schad, Diamond & Shedden recovered $127.6 million for the plaintiff class.
Mr. Kim represents clients who sue for money damages and other relief under various states' consumer fraud laws, including the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Cases brought under the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act often involve deceptive misrepresentations or omissions of material fact by businesses. Consumer fraud cases often involve unfair business practices by the Defendants. Under Illinois law, a business practice is unfair if it is: (i) against public policy; (ii) immoral, unethical or oppressive; or (iii) a practice that causes substantial injury to consumers.
Tony Kim represents clients in lawsuits who have claims for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and conspiracy. Mr. Kim represents clients in the area of consumer finance, including actions brought under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA"), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ("FDCPA"), Truth in Lending Act ("TILA") and the Credit Repair Organizations Act ("CROA").
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kim was an extern to the Honorable Milton Shadur in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School, in 2002, and his B.A. in Political Science from Purdue University in 1999. Mr. Kim is a member of the Chicago, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA). Tony Kim is admitted to the State Bar of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
