Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Several cases: helped client obtain inheritance when family was trying to disinherit. Another we helped client obtain assets from estate that were squandered by Executor/Personal Representative. Please feel free to review my AVVO reviews from clients for additional examples.
How did you build a successful practice?
My practice is built around hard work and word of mouth. When you work hard for your clients and set appropriate expectations from the onset of representation, you come out with happy clients who are glad to refer you.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Honesty. A client should always look for an honest lawyer. While no one can predict the future, someone who can tell you your case has merit, doesn't have merit, or will be an extremely hard fought battle, is someone you want. You also want someone who communicates well. Communication to and from attorney and client is essential in a good attorney/client relationship.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
This depends on the type of matter. In my realm, local knowledge is essential in navigating the government "red tape" for quick and financially reasonable solutions.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Generally - free telephone or in-person consultations are limited in their scope to exploring the facts and circumstances surrounding an individuals legal matter and assessing the worthiness of their claims or the extent of the damage (if defendant). From there, if the attorney is willing to offer representation, the terms of that representation would be discussed. Consultations in which individuals are seeking a one time or short term advisory session are likely going to be required to pay a fee.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Individuals who have scheduled a free consultation should be prepared to share (via encrypted link provided by the attorney) any documents related to the matter. Further, they should be well aware of as much facts and circumstances as the individual can reasonably ascertain prior to the meeting, including other people the attorney should contact.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Client-centered lawyering. This is the concept in which the client is always prepared for the next step and kept well informed of the matters at hand. This allows the client to make informed decisions which include the costs of proceeding to the next level and the chances of prevailing, if they change, based on newly discovered information. I have always practice client centered lawyering and I encourage others to do it as well. In the end, regardless of outcome, I always want my client to feel they approached their case in the manner they decided, with help understanding the outcomes of their decisions ahead of time.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Happy clients. There is absolutely nothing better than a happy client.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I love to play and watch sports. I enjoy relaxing with my family and playing with my dog.
Are you involved in your community?
I try to stay involved in the local community including offering pro bono legal services, attending community events, and sponsoring community events.
