About Van

In 1990, I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S.B.A in business management.  I received my law degree from Samford University in 1997.  My law practice began in Birmingham, Alabama in 1997 with Burgess & Hale, L.L.C. At Burgess & Hale, my primary focus was insurance defense and general civil litigation.  My practice consisted of litigation in federal and state courts throughout the Southeast.  Subsequently, I was a managing partner with Gibson & McMahan in Birmingham, Alabama. At Gibson & McMahan my primary areas of practice were personal injury, worker's compensation defense, and general litigation. In 2002, my family and I moved home to McNairy County and I relocated my practice to Selmer, as McMahan Law Firm.  In 2006, I was elected General Sessions and Juvenile Judge for McNairy County. Although I am General Sessions and Juvenile Judge, I also maintain my private practice of law at McMahan Law Firm.  Over the past fifteen (15) years, I have practiced in several different areas of law with a wide range of clients.  I have represented corporations, insurance companies, banks, farming operations, municipalities, police departments, and individuals in various state and federal courts throughout Alabama and Tennessee.  Allow me to put my years of experience, as an attorney and judge, on your side to assist you with your legal needs.  I look forward to the opportunity to meet you.  Give me a call or drop me an email and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
