About Vic

Mr. Hill is first and foremost a trial attorney that limits his practice to divorce and other domestic relations cases. Mr. Hill holds a peer review rating of AV-Preeminent from Martindale-Hubbell and an AVVO rating of 10/10 – Superb. While Mr. Hill plans a strategy for each case individually, his basic approach is to prepare for war and use the power that provides to settle the case wherever possible. If settlement becomes impossible, Mr. Hill has ample experience in both bench trials and jury trials. He also has experience in appealing divorce cases to the Supreme Court.

Mr. Hill brings a strong background in business, accounting and cost analysis (both educational and practical experience) to the practice of domestic relations law. His business skills combine effectively to allow him to achieve excellent results in cases involving high asset and complex marital estates especially those that include on-going businesses.

Mr. Hill has published papers in technical trial techniques and areas of applicability to the family law practitioner. He is a Guardian Ad Litem for the Superior Court of Cobb County and he is a Registered Neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.

Mr. Hill is a member of the State Bar of Georgia; the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia; the Cobb County Bar Association; the Family Law Section of the Cobb County Bar Association; and Phi Delta Phi. Mr. Hill is also a member of First United Methodist Church of Marietta, the Marietta Kiwanis, and the Kennesaw Business Association.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

In the last year, I represented one of the parties in the case Rutter v. Rutter. It was an appeal to the Georgia Court of Appeals and then to the Georgia Supreme Court on certiorari. The case dealt with overlapping issues of domestic law, criminal law and legislative procedure/statutory construction. Ultimately, the case created a new focus in Georgia on the rights of privacy that do or do not exist between spouses.

How did you build a successful practice?

I built a successful practice by picking a practice area, concentrating my work in that area, staying abreast of changes in the law in that area, associating myself with other experts in that area, and contributing to the enhancement to that area of practice in the community.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for a lawyer who can not only hear what their needs and desires are, but who can offer experienced advice as to how attainable those desires may be. Once the lawyer and client reach an agreement of the goal, the attorney should be able to move forward to achieve that goal.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge in especially important in family law cases because so much discretion is afforded the trial judge. Each judge is different and will have a different approach to the same case. Having a familiarity with the judge before whom one practices helps the lawyer to prepare the case in a way that will be influential to THAT judge.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

In a free phone consultation, I try to hear a short version of what is happening in the case and what the client wants. I introduce myself and my abilities to the client and I try to give the client a short version idea of how he/she may attain his/her goal. That may change after all of the facts of the case are fleshed out later, but I try to give the client a general idea of what to expect.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

In a free phone consultation, I would need to know the client's name; the posture of the case; the kind of case; the Court where the case is/would exist; who the opposing counsel is, if applicable; and what the client wishes to achieve.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I strive to maintain close contact with my clients. The constraints of busy practice don't make that easy, but with modern technology I succeed in maintaining good communication.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing a client finish a case in a better situation than when he/she first came to me.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My family, music, painting, history.

Are you involved in your community?

I am active in my church and several civic organizations.
