Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

A few months ago, I helped a woman who had had her car repossessed get it back so that she could continue working. Had this not occurred, she would be homeless today. Although not a large matter, the impact was significant.

How did you build a successful practice?

I have built a successful practice by treating people kindly, doing what is right and working hard.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for someone who takes an interest in their case, listens and answers their questions.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is extremely important. Having a reputation in the community with the judiciary and other attorneys goes a long way toward resolving cases. Understanding the quirks in your particular geographical area and/or area of expertise can save time and money.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Generally speaking, I can determine during a phone consultation whether or not the facts warrant legal action, whether or not I can help the potential client, and if I cannot, who/where I can direct them to for help.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

A detailed explanation of what occurred (the facts giving rise to the potential legal action). If the potential client has been sued, it is extremely helpful to have the case number and court where action filed, because I can then access court records and learn about the case's status, etc.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I have been told repeatedly by clients that they have not seen other lawyers take the time and interest I do in their cases/potential cases. They are also are not used to speaking regularly to the attorney - they are usually only able to talk to assistants, paralegals or office managers, which they find frustrating. I've also been told my responsiveness is comforting, and something they have not experienced before. Lastly, I've been told other lawyers don't ask the questions I ask, review the documents they provide thoroughly like I do, or provide detailed answers/explanations for actions taken/not taken as I do.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is helping people and comforting them through the legal process, which can be very confusing and frightening to a non-lawyer.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am interested in social causes - the interests/rights of women and children are especially important to me. I enjoy food/wine/cooking, the performing and visual arts, yoga/pilates, reading, being outdoors in nice weather at community events, and engaging in diverse activities that stimulate my body, brain or senses.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes, I am very involved. I was appointed by the current President of the Florida Bar to serve on the prestigious Civil Procedure Rules Committee. This Committee reviews the rules that govern the practice of civil law at the request of attorneys, judges, clerks of court, and the legislature, makes recommendations, and revises the Rules, when warranted. I also serve on the Boards of the Broward County Women Lawyers' Association and the St. Gregory the Great Women's Guild. I serve as a mentor for both the PACE Center for Girls (12-18 year-olds) and Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad College of Law (second and third year law students). I am an active member of the Florida Lawyers Network, a state-wide network of highly-skilled and well-qualified lawyers, and serve as the Education Director for my Chapter. I'm also an active member of the Broward County Bar Association, and serve on the Professionalism and Emerging Legal Issues: Rising Waters Committees. I volunteer throughout the year with Habitat for Humanity, Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Feeding South Florida and the homeless.
