About William
William B. Long, Jr. is a practicing Trial Attorney who engages in the General Practice of Law, with emphasis in Criminal Defense (State and Federal) and Contested Family Court matters (Divorce; Child Custody and Visitation; Property and Debt Division; Alimony and Support, etc.). He is generally known and prefers to be addressed by his life-long nickname, “Billy Long”. Billy grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and was educated through the tenth grade in the Greenville County public schools. Thereafter, he attended Sewanee Military Academy, then a division of the “University of the South”, where he graduated as Class Valedictorian. Billy next attended Davidson College in North Carolina, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, as well as serving as Co-editor of the College’s Literary Magazine. Thereafter, Billy attended Law School at the University of South Carolina where he was selected as an editor of the South Carolina Law Review, as well as being elected President of the Law School Student Body and Chairman of its Honor Council. Billy Long began his legal career as an employee of the Haynsworth Law Firm during Law School, and after graduation from the University of South Carolina School of Law, as an Associate Attorney. He remained with that firm for approximately three years before accepting a position as an assistant United States Attorney for South Carolina. Billy worked in that office for three years as a criminal prosecutor before returning to the private sector and establishing his own Law practice. Billy believes that the varied legal experience gained by his having worked for a large commercial law firm, followed by an intense period of work as a Federal Prosecutor, was extremely valuable training. This experience proved transferrable to his current preferred areas of practice, inasmuch as both Criminal Defense and Family Court litigation often require knowledge and insight into property law and business practices, as well as government procedures, including prosecutorial methods and tactics.
