About William
Mr. Schmidt is a senior partner in the Subrogation Department. He practices in the areas of insurance subrogation, first and third-party property defense and the defense of insurance agents and brokers in errors and omission claims. Mr. Schmidt is the co-chairman of the Firm's Professional Liability Practice Group and is experienced in defending professional liability claims not involving medical malpractice. He received his B.A., cum laude, in 1979 from Dickinson College and his J.D. in 1982 from the University of Pittsburgh where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and was a member of the Law Review.
He has been practicing since 1982 and is a member of the bars of Pennsylvania and New Jersey but practices throughout a 25-state territory using the services of local counsel under a special program of the Subrogation Department.
In addition to litigating and trying cases throughout the Eastern United States, Mr. Schmidt has been an author and speaker for publications and forums focused on his areas of practice. Mr. Schmidt has been AV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system and he is an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Mr. Schmidt has also lectured on trial advocacy in-house and through various continuing legal education programs.
