Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

We represented one side in an internal Church dispute. The other filed for an emergency injunction, which we defeated. When the smoke cleared, our client remained as leadership of the ongoing church.

How did you build a successful practice?

I try to provide fair representation that gets the legal job done without running up an unnecessary bill. Past clients refer friends and come back with new matters even years after an old case because of how they feel they were treated.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

An attorney who will cheat for you will also cheat you. Look for an attorney who believes in following the ethics rules. Many lawyers believe as I do that the practice of law is at the same time a business but also more than a business. Find a lawyer who will treat you as he or she would like to be treated.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge can be the feather that tips the scale to victory. Yes, it helps to have tried cases before a particular judge. More important than that is a focus on the detail. I often visit clients' businesses and the physical locations where events important to a case have transpired. More than once, I have been in a suit in mud up to my knees to better understand "the action". If I don't understand the action, how do I best explain it to a judge or jury?

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

We are ethics first. Then, there is no limit to how hard we fight, so long as we remain inside the ethics rules.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I try to settle every case because that helps keep client costs down. When cases cannot settle, I like to fight the court fight on behalf of my clients. I try to represent only the "good guys" and I fight to win.
