About William
Electrical injuries to linemen and members of the public have sustained burns as a consequence of utility companies not trimming trees, rotten and unmaintained poles, improper protective equipment, defective reclosers and bucket trucks, ungrounded lines, static electricity fires and other arc flash incidents involving electricity. Numerous cases have been successfully completed against large utilities and manufacturers for their failure to adhere to various safety standards.
Walker is moved by the on going fight of the every-day tax paying person with the government, insurance companies and big corporations. The deck is stacked against them when they are taken advantage of, which Walker says is why he went to law school, to try and help people.
While burn injuries have become a significant portion of Walker’s practice he is still heavily involved in cases involving brain injuries, catastrophic motor vehicle injuries including amputations, partial paralysis, and death. Walker says, “a burn injury is the most hideous type of insult a human being can experience.” As a consequence he has developed a passion for this type of case given the horrific circumstances including the total devastation of a client’s everyday life. Walker says the most challenging of these cases are those burns that destroy a victim’s ability to earn a living for his or her family. Some of the most compelling cases Walker has handled involve young children who are burned, including product failure and fires.
Walker is a Sustaining Member of the South Carolina Association for Justice and a President’s Club Member for the American Association for Justice. He was elected member of the House of Delegates of the South Carolina Bar Association for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. His professional life includes membership in the American Bar Association, American Judicature Society and the Civil Justice Foundation. Walker is also a member of two legal groups that are by invitation only, the Melvin Belli Society and the Southern Trial Lawyers Association.
His community service includes serving as the President of the Lexington Economic Development Association for 10 years. In 2001 he was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Newberry College, his alma mater, founded in 1856.
Walker is also a frequent lecturer on various legal issues at seminars and conventions where he is invited to present his approach to lawyers on important legal issues and trial tactics.
In 2009, Walker was the recipient of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association prestigious “Tommy Malone Great American Eagle Award.” This honor recognizes “an individual who has a calling to help others and is a powerful example of the bold pursuit of excellence and justice.” The award is described as “one who inspires others and is a living symbol of Integrity, Strength, Bravery, Justice, Freedom, Pride, Devotion, Excellence, and Friendship and to many, a Hero.”
