About Yexenia

Yexenia Gilmet was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2007. She attended the University of Florida and Rutgers University School of Law. While attending law school, Ms. Gilmet served as Vice-President of the Immigration Law Society, Vice-President of the Latino Law Student Association and Student Bar Association 3L Representative.

Ms. Gilmet received the distinction of top oralist in Moot Court and was awarded top ten brief in the Hunter Moot Competition. She was also a recipient of the Dean's Scholarship and the Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship Fund. Upon graduation, Ms. Gilmet received the Rutgers University Pro-Bono Award for her dedicated service to the Immigration Project and Bankruptcy Clinic

Even prior to graduating law school, Ms. Gilmet's concern and involvement in the community led her to obtain legal experience. Ms. Gilmet obtained experience in interpreting and drafting legislation/statutes while working for a women's rights non-profit organization. In addition, Ms. Gilmet interned at the Philadelphia's District Attorney's Office where she gained experience in the criminal court system.

In 2007 Attorney Ms. Gilmet joined a law firm that practiced personal injury, DWI law and workers' compensation. Ms. Gilmet's detailed knowledge of the law, strong presence during hearings and ability to effectively communicate with her clients earned her the recognition of being the attorney who won the most cases in her firm.

Ms. Gilmet's success at hearings resulted in her clients receiving the compensation and benefits they had previously been denied. In addition, Ms. Gilmet's knowledge of the law and interpretation of precedent cases earned her respect from her peers. In the limited time she worked at the firm, Ms. Gilmet was quickly promoted to oversee all the hearings for the firm.

As the founding partner of The Law Gilmet Law Firm, Ms. Gilmet combines her talent and background in service of her clients to reach the best possible outcome. Ms. Gilmet has successfully represented individuals in all family issues, including child custody battles, protective order defense, and divorce proceedings.

Since Ms. Gilmet spent summers abroad, she is fluent in Spanish, which helps the firm serve the needs of the Hispanic community in Houston.
