About Benjamin
Ben Nisenbaum is an associate with the Law Offices of John L. Burris. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of California at Santa Cruz (1997) and is a graduate of New College of California School of Law (2002). Mr. Nisenbaum was admitted to the California State Bar in December 2002.
Ben joined the law office as a law clerk in 2001, where he made significant contributions to the "Riders" class-action civil rights lawsuit that started in 2001. Ben has been an integral part of many of the firm's high profile cases, including the successful civil defense of retired NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, and several significant wrongful death settlements, including Denmon v. County of San Joaquin, et al; Saulsbury, et al. v. City of Pacifica, et al; Perez, et al. v. City of San Leandro, et al.; and the $6.25 million settlement in the shooting of Pedro Jaramillo, a custodian shot and paralyzed by a Napa County Sheriff's Deputy in Jaramillo, et al. v. County of Napa, et al.
Mr. Nisenbaum has won acquittals for clients in criminal trials who were wrongly accused of battering and resisting police officers. Most recently, Mr. Nisenbaum was Plaintiffs' lead trial counsel, assisted by firm associate Adante Pointer, in Torry Smith and Patricia Gray v. City of Oakland, et al., which resulted in a jury verdict in favor of Mr. Smith and Ms. Gray in the amount of $6.2 million (since remitted to $3.5 million).
Ben is presently involved with many of the firm's major wrongful death cases, particularly those related to tasers and firearms.
