About Brian
Also at Florida, Brian met his wife Rebecca Hidalgo, who was a member of the Florida Gator Women’s Soccer Team. After graduation, Brian & Rebecca were married and moved together to Denver, Colorado, where Brian attended Denver University College of Law. While in law school, Brian competed in Moot Court, worked in the Student Law Office, and wrote for the Transportation Law Journal. He completed an internship at the Arapahoe County Public Defender Office during the Summer of 2001. He earned the book award for his efforts in Family Law (Fall 2000) and Trial Practice (Spring 2001).
In 2002, Brian returned home to Gainesville to practice law with his father, Gerald Schackow, and his sister, Lynn Schackow. For the past 14 years, Brian has worked hard representing and advocating for Floridians in their cases involving car, truck, and motorcycle accidents, as well as wrongful death cases, premises liability cases, nursing home abuse, assisted living neglect, and medical negligence. Brian is admitted to the Florida Bar (2003) and the United States Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Outside of law, Brian has four children that keep him very busy. He is a devoted husband and Dad and spends the majority of his free time cheering his kids on at their various sporting events. He is an elder at Christ Community Church and teaches Sunday School to a K-1 st class. He is a member of the Florida Players Network, and the F Club. He enjoys watching Gator sporting events, going to the beach, and playing golf and tennis.

Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I do not think there is just one case, I think in every case we were able to make a significant difference in our client's life. A lot of our clients come in with situations that completely turned their life around and so we believe that in helping them, we are not just helping them obtain compensation but also turn their life back on track.
How did you build a successful practice?
We have been able to build a successful practice by making every fight for our clients personal, and treating each of our clients as a family member.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
When looking for a lawyer, clients should look for an attorney who is trustworthy, tenacious, personable, and emphathetic.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
We believe local knowledge is key in the success of a case. We mainly believe this because it help us create a true relationship with our clients. This local connection allows to be there for them often, whether it is at home, hospital, or at the office.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
During a phone consultation, we can provide guidance on what the next steps are that someone should take, try to understand their situation and give them a good idea of the possibility of pursuing a claim.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
We would need some basic facts about your case, insurance coverage, and medical visits/history.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
When you become a client at our firm, you become part of our Schackow and Mercadante family and will be treated as such. We believe this idea that stems from our nature of being a small and local firm sets us apart.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing the smiles on our client's faces after we hve been able to help them out.
