He earned recognition for excellence from the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, which elected him a diplomate in 2014 (membership limited to 100 of the top family law trial attorneys in the United States practicing sophisticated and complex family law). He is Board Certified Family Trial Advocate, National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Sobol graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in child psychology, and he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society as an undergraduate. He earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1982 and has been admitted to practice in Minnesota since 1982. Mr. Sobol is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota and the Supreme Court of the United States. Outside of the office, Mr. Sobol maintains memberships in a variety of professional organizations, including the American, Minnesota State and Hennepin County bar associations. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and served as the administrative vice president of the organization's Minnesota chapter from 2009 to 2012, and currently serves as Minnesota's delegate to the National Board of Governors. Mr. Sobol is also a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. From 2002 to 2010, he served on the board of directors of Cornerstone, an advocacy service. Mr. Sobol has also given lectures on a number of topics with a focus on domestic law and is AV Preeminent* peer-review rated through Martindale-Hubbell.
