About Cathi

The Law Office of Cathi V. Chambley and Attorney Cathi Chambley are committed to providing exceptional service to injured clients and family law clients. Her firm handles divorce, custody, alimony & other family matters in the state of South Carolina, particularly in Aiken and Edgefield Counties and the surrounding areas. Her family law services include divorce, alimony, equitable distribution, Prenuptial Agreements, custody and child support modification, visitation, paternity and family law mediation. She understands that issues effecting family life are difficult and sensitive, and her foremost concern is guiding clients as they make decisions impacting their most private and personal needs and their future of their family and their children. She works with clients to resolve disputed marital issues, contested custody, visitation, and/or paternity of their children. While each case is different, she strives to minimize conflicts through a variety of techniques approved by and even required by the court system, including pretrial settlement discussions and mediation. These methods help minimize conflict and assist clients in amicably settling their case, often while reducing the costs of litigation. However, her foremost goal is to advocate for my clients. In addition to family law, Attorney Cathi V. Chambley also practices personal injury law, assisting those injured in automobile accidents, dog bites, slip-and-falls and other misadventures in getting valuable insurance settlements through negotiating, mediating and at trial. No one can predict with 100% accuracy what the outcome of your case will be. However, an experienced attorney who knows the statutory law, reads the recent case law, keeps up with his or her peers and maintains an active South Carolina practice can give you the best advice and help you make the best decisions about any issue or concern that you have. If you have a question about your family law or personal injury case, The Law Office of Cathi V. Chambley, PC, would be happy to assist you. Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I am especially proud of my work defending against South Carolina Department of Social Services, assisting relatives of the accused parents in gaining custody of the minor children, preventing the minor children from having extended stays in foster care or being subject to non-family adoption. My successful track record in these cases reflects my commitment to my clients and to my 25 years of service to the people of the local area.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should always look for a lawyer that they can trust. The attorney-client relationship is a contractual relationship built on mutual trust. My clients must trust me to advocate for them, just as they would if they had a full understanding of the law and the court system. What information do you need in a free phone consultation? I need to know the client's name, the name of the opposing party, where they live, and the general nature of the conflict. For example, is this a divorce, an adoption, a problem with DSS, or an issue with visitation or child support? The nature of the conflict helps me determine the applicable law and, generally, helps me determine the retainer fee.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I believe that every client has the right to understand the laws that apply to their situation. Before I went to law school, I was a teacher; I believe a good lawyer is a teacher. Teaching my clients the laws about their issues helps them avoid continuing conflict and further expense.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing the smile of happiness on a client's face when a judge rules in their favor. I love that.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I love to read, particularly novels or biographies about English history in the years 1100 to 1600. I sew, quilt, and do needlework - I am always busy with something.
