About Steven
Mr. Chanley has over 25 years’ experience representing employers in civil and administrative litigation matters, and providing legal advice to employers across a broad range of industries on state and federal employment law matters. His practice includes the litigation of wage-hour, trade secret/non-competition, sexual harassment, employment discrimination, and wrongful discharge cases. He also represents companies before the California Labor Commissioner, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Mr. Chanley also advises corporations on employment and personnel policy matters, and drafts employment contracts and severance agreements for executives.
Mr. Chanley is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo (B.A., cum laude, 1985) and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (J.D., 1989). During law school, he was a member of the Hastings Moot Court Board, and won two American Jurisprudence awards for academic excellence in the study of Labor Law. In 1989, he served as an extern at the National Labor Relations Board’s Regional Office in San Francisco.
Prior to founding EAG, Mr. Chanley practiced Employment Law with Morrison & Foerster in Palo Alto (1990-1995) and Littler Mendelson in San Francisco (1989-1990). He was a shareholder with Sinsheimer, Schiebelhut, Baggett & Tangeman in San Luis Obispo before founding Employer Advocates Group in February 2002. Mr. Chanley was the founding Chair of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association Labor & Employment Law Section.
Mr. Chanley is an Elder of the Nipomo Community Presbyterian Church (PCUSA).
