About Arnold

Arnold D. Cribari has been a practicing lawyer for over 40 years. With over 30 years of practice concentrating exclusively on matrimonial and family law, he has a track record for negotiating solutions to divorce and custody issues, avoiding unnecessary litigation. He has experienced the inadequacy of the adversarial system for dealing with family issues, particularly when children are involved. Although Arnold will litigate when necessary, if mediation or collaborative divorce are viable alternatives, Arnold will recommend them to reduce his client’s risk and potentially save his client tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees.

Arnold earned his BA degree at Columbia College of Columbia University in New York in 1973, and his JD degree from Albany Law School of Union University in 1976. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1977 and is also admitted to the United States District Court in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Married for 41 years with two children in their early thirties, Arnold and his wife Shawn also raised his now 34-year-old niece who was orphaned at age 11. Arnold understands from personal experience how important consistent, stable relationships are for a child’s ability to thrive.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I got a divorce case settled for a wife who received primary physical custody of children, child support pursuant to the Child Support Standards Act, maintenance (alimony) pursuant to Maintenance Guidelines, exclusive possession of the marital home, her separate property and 50% of the marital assets including her one-half share of the husband's retirement assets pursuant to two Qualified Domestic Relations Orders.

How did you build a successful practice?

By helping clients decide what divorce process is best for him/her, not me. If mediation or collaborative divorce is best for the client, ant that's that the client wants, I recommend that even though I might make a lot more money litigating the divorce. In my opinion, this is the most ethical way to be a divorce lawyer. I regard this ethical approach to practicing family law as compared to what good doctors do: if medicine or physical therapy solves the problem, recommend that, not surgery. Surgery

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

See answer #2 above. Also, clients should look for how much experience a lawyer has. I have over 40 years of experience focusing on divorce and domestic relations matters.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

I believe local knowledge is important, so I only do cases in Westchester County and its adjacent counties in New York State.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

What divorce process choice is best for the client: mediation, collaborative divorce, or litigation.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

If there are any issues that are urgent and require immediate action.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Helping people resolve difficult problems economically in their divorce.

Are you involved in your community?

I am an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in which I am a member.
