About Daniel
Daniel Cashman brings over thirty years of legal experience to Cashman & Lovely, P.C. A Massachusetts native, Dan grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and later graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University with degrees in political science and history. He went on to serve in both VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) and the United States Army Reserve before entering law school at Cornell University.
Dan has also recently been recognized by Lexis-Nexis and Martindale-Hubble for his outstanding achievements in immigration law with an AV rating. Their peer rating system awarded Dan the highest ratings for both his legal abilities and his strict adherence to the professional code of conduct.
Dan earned his law degree in 1973 and spent almost three years as a staff attorney with the Monroe County Legal Assistance Corp. in Rochester, N. Y. As a legal services attorney, Dan represented clients in many different courts, including the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of N. Y.
Since entering private practice in 1975, he has represented clients in Probate, District, Superior, and the Supreme Courts. However, at this time most of Dan's work takes place in Immigration Court, before the Board of Immigration Appeals, and in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, where Dan represents clients in removal or deportation hearings.
In the past few years, Dan has successfully argued cases in the First Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of asylum seekers, including Mukamusoni v. Ashcroft, 390 F. 3d 110 (1st Cir. 2004), and Haoud v. Ashcroft, 350 F. 3d 201 (1st Cir. 2003). While a part of Dan's practice focuses on asylum issues, Dan also represents immigrants seeking to become naturalized citizens and those seeking to obtain green cards through employment and marriage or other family relationships. Additionally, Dan handles a probate matters including: divorce, child custody, support, visitation, and guardianships of the mentally ill.
Dan has also been cited for his pro bono work on several occasions most notably in 1983 for his work with the mentally challenged and again in 1992 for his work with asylum seekers. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
