Book: Navigating Your New York Divorce Case.
Book: Navigating Your New York Family Court Case.
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I was retained by a client to represent him in a hotly-contested custody case. I was my client's 5th attorney. The case had largely been stagnant for over a year, with continuation of a temporary order of protection against my client the entire time. I came in, secured an immediate trial date for the family offense, and then aggressively defended my client against unfounded accusations in the underlying custody case. When we started the family offense trial, my cross-examination of the mother was so vigorous that her attorney stopped the trial in the middle of my cross, withdrew the family offense petition and settled the custody case by giving my client a final order of sole custody.
How did you build a successful practice?
I largely build my practice by my diligence and hard work on my cases, which my client's see. that's why I have represented more than a few clients in which I am their 2d, 3d, 4th or 5th attorney but they stick with me.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
I'd refer them to this article which I wrote: www.avvo.com/legal-guides/ugc/factors-in-choosing-a-divorce--family-law-attorney
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is sometimes critical. Some attorneys from outside a particular county may be unfamiliar with the county's rules & policies, for instance.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I do not offer free phone consultation accept for out-of-state potential clients.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
For a free consultation, I would always appreciate receiving a copy of all prior orders & petitions (along with a copy of any prior written agreements between the parties).
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Unlike many other lawyers, I have prior experience as a Family Court prosecutor. This gave me unparalleled skills in how to conduct trials. Moreover, I concentrate my practice in Divorce & Family Law, unlike many other attorneys who handle cases from multiple areas of law.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Creating value for a client and knowing at the end of a case that my hard work paid off.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Politics, Sports.
Are you involved in your community?
Not at this time.
