About David
David Shea is a 1996 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina. While in law school, he served as book editor for the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal, participated in the U.S. Department of Justice Summer Law Intern Program, and was a visiting student at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to law school, Mr. Shea served as an assistant editor for Bobbin magazine. He is a native of Hollywood, Florida.
Before opening his own practice in 2004, he was a partner in King & Shea (formerly King & Vernon), with the esteemed Kermit S. King. Prior to entering private practice in 1999, Mr. Shea gained extensive trial experience as an assistant public defender in Lexington County. A graduate of the National College of Criminal Defense, he has represented both adults and juveniles in all degrees of criminal charges. He concentrates his practice in domestic relations, in additional to maintaining a presence in the criminal courts, and in general tort litigation, including defamation, libel, slander, and attorney malpractice.
He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar, American Bar Association and the South Carolina Trial Lawyer's Association. He is the past immediate chair and member of the Law Related Education committee of the South Carolina Bar, and has served on several other Bar committees, including as a member of the editorial board of South Carolina Lawyer magazine. He served on the case writing team for the South Carolina High School Mock Trial competition for several years.
Mr. Shea is admitted to practice in all South Carolina state courts and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Mr. Shea has been certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court as a Family Court Mediator, and is often selected as a mediator by other family court attorneys.
Outside of the office, Mr. Shea enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling with his wife and two children. He lives in the Shandon area and is a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and the Richland Sertoma Club.
