About Dawn
As a child, I dreamed of one day becoming a lawyer. And in those dreams, where was the only place I wanted to practice law? Right here in my hometown of Louisville Kentucky. I have a long history with Louisville, it is where I was born and raised. I grew up in Louisville's east end, raised by my parents Gilbert and Laura Yarbrough. My parents were, and still are, honest and hard working people. I had a very modest childhood and was fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged me to follow my dreams. In addition to the encouragement, my parents were determined to create a positive learning atmosphere for their children. The valuable lessons I learned from my parents followed me through to adulthood.
I graduated from Eastern High School in Middletown Kentucky in 1993. After high school, I worked very diligently to finance my college education. Going to college and working full time was no easy task. I repeated this undertaking when I entered the Brandeis School of Law in Louisville, KY in 2003. A typical day for me would be to work during the day, go to school at night, and then go home to my family and child. Clearly I am not afraid of hard work. It is just not my style to shy away from the difficult and the complicated.
In high school, I had a very diverse group of friends. It was hard to tell by mere observation where I "belonged." I seemed to attract people from different walks of life and/or social circles. This ability to attract diversity has not changed in my professional career. I have a very diverse client base. My clients come from all over Louisville as well as Oldham, Bullitt and Shelby counties. This is one of the best parts of my job; I get to represent the people living in the community I love so much. Although my clients are diverse and unique in themselves, they are all treated with respect and integrity. All my clients are treated as if they are extended family members.
While in law school, I worked as a Paralegal in the Commonwealth Attorney's Office in Jefferson County. I was employed with the Commonwealth for 6 years before becoming a solo practitioner. This is important because working for the Commonwealth gave me an education in criminal law, as well as the justice system, that cannot be found in a book. I have taken advantage of that knowledge and experience and molded my practice around it.
I am very passionate about law. I went to law school to protect the rights of those citizens who have the misfortune of fighting one kind of battle or another inside the courtroom. Let me work for you. Hire a lawyer with passion, knowledge, experience and most importantly, common sense. My name is Dawn R. Elliott and I am YOUR lawyer.
