About Dominique

Dominique D. Calhoun is the managing partner at Calhoun, Meredith, & Sims, PLLC – a boutique law firm specializing in advocating for its clients in government relations matters, tort-related issues, and business law affairs.

Prior to becoming a partner at the law firm, Calhoun was the chief government relations officer for Texas Southern University where he developed the legislative and appropriations strategies for federal, state, and local governments. During his tenure, Calhoun secured over $40 million through state and local government for the institution. Chief among his achievements were obtaining $16 million in state appropriations to improve the university’s infrastructure and $15 million from county appropriations for the Cleburne Street Improvement project. In addition, under his direction, the university was able to repeal a law that detrimentally impacted the university’s athletics program, ensuring that the program would continue to receive $2 million annually. Before joining TSU, Calhoun was the district director for Senator Borris L. Miles and clerk for legal and budgetary affairs for then-State Representative Sylvester Turner.

In his litigation practice, Calhoun represents corporations in contract disputes, public entities in various matters, and individuals injured as result of someone’s negligence. He has resolved hundreds of personal injury matters - either through settlement or the civil trial process. In addition, he has vigorously defended and aggressively pursued claims on behalf of his corporate clients.

Dedicated to improving the lives of all Texans and citizens throughout the country, Calhoun has contributed his legal and business acumen to a number of non-profit organizations, including serving as Vice President for the National Bar Association, National Liaison to the March of Dimes for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., board member for Undies for Everyone, Vice Chair for the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce’s Foundation, and member of the State Bar of Texas’s Diversity in the Profession Committee.

Calhoun is a graduate of TSU’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where he was appointed by Governor Abbott to serve as student regent – the highest-ranking student leadership position at the university, and two-time graduate of Midwestern State University, where he earned a Master’s in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, and served as president of the Student Government Association.
