About Douglas

Doug Micko concentrates his practice in employment law and consumer protection, representing individuals and groups who have been harmed by illegal workplace conduct or consumer fraud. He strongly believes that victims of discrimination, fraud, and other unlawful conduct deserve a zealous advocate who will work on their behalf, and focuses his energy toward that goal.

Doug brings a wealth of trial and appellate experience to our team. Before joining the firm, Doug served as a law clerk to both the Honorable Gerald W. Heaney and the Honorable Donald P. Lay, Judges for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He also worked previously as an attorney for The Defender Association, the largest public defense agency in Seattle, Washington. Most recently, Doug worked at Sprenger + Lang, PLLC, focusing on employment discrimination and consumer protection work on behalf of classes and individuals. His notable achievements include successfully arguing for reversal in Reeves v. C.H. Robinson, an employment discrimination case in which the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit decided issues of first impression in favor of Doug's client. He has also represented clients in proceedings adverse to Homecomings Financial, 3M, and Allstate Insurance Company, as well as representing television writers in their age discrimination litigation against talent agencies, studios, production companies, and networks.

He is currently a member of local and national chapters of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA), the National Consumer Law Conference (NCLC), Volunteer Lawyers Network, the Hennepin County and Minnesota State Bar Associations. In 2008, Doug was selected as a "Rising Star" by Minnesota Law & Politics for 2008 and 2009.

Doug is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, and Minnesota state courts.

After receiving his B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, Doug continued his education at the University of Minnesota Law School, graduating magna cum laude. He was active in the Minnesota Justice Foundation and the Gender Issues Steering Committee while in law school, and represented clients as a student attorney for the Neighborhood Justice Center and the Legal Assistance to Minnesota Prisoners legal clinic, as well as acting as a student director of the clinic.
